This procedure is very delicate and requires perfect placement of the hairs into tiny, angled incisions at the exact angle and direction as your natural facial hair growth. A beard hair transplant procedure typically involves the placement of 350 to 500 grafts for the mustache area, 600 to 700 grafts for a full goatee, 200 to 250 grafts per sideburn, and 300 to 700 grafts for a cheek beard. Depending on the beard density desired, a second procedure to transplant more hair may be required although this is rare.

Usually performed under a mild sedative, the procedure takes anywhere from two-to-eight hours, depending on the amount of hair being transplanted and the size of the area to be covered. The procedure itself is essentially painless as is the recovery period. During the first five days after the procedure, tiny crusts form around each transplanted hair. The beard transplant area must be kept completely dry during these five days. For at least the first three-to-four days after the beard transplant, it will be noticeable that something has been done to the face. Around two weeks after the transplant, the transplanted hairs fall out. This is normal and the facial hair will start to regrow three months after the procedure. They will continue to grow for a lifetime.
