Seattle is uniquely situated at the edge of the Pacific Northwest. It is built on a strip of land between two distinct bodies of water – the salt waters of Puget Sound and the fresh waters of Lake Washington. Between the 1850s and 1880s, Seattle became established as a rough-and-tumble community where lumber and coal mining were the primary industries. Its industry focus shifted considerably during World War I when the city became a premier shipbuilding center. It also became home (in 1916) to what would become one of the world's most significant aerospace companies – Boeing.
Today, Seattle is a city of culture, diversity, industry, and amazing beauty. We hope you will plan to enjoy the Seattle experience during your stay in the "Emerald City." People come all around the world to see all of the different Seattle attractions! Come see for yourself.
