Facial fillers are products used by plastic surgeons to reduce lines and restore fullness and volume to the face. Internationally recognized plastic surgeon, Dr. Javad Sajan, is skilled in utilizing the non-surgical techniques of facial filling to help patients' faces look more refreshed.

What Facial Fillers Can Do

Not all patients are good candidates for plastic surgery, and some patients don't need extensive surgical procedures like a facelift to achieve a rejuvenated appearance. Facial filler treatments may be ideal for these patients because fillers can:

  • Lift targeted areas like the cheeks, jawline, and temples
  • Add volume to lips
  • Fill in lines and wrinkles
  • Enhance shallow contours
  • Help diminish the appearance of recessed scars such as those caused by acne

Facial fillers are not surgically implanted. They are injected into targeted areas of the face. Positive results are nearly immediate and without the trauma of incisions to facial tissue and longer post-procedure recovery period.

About Hyaluronic Acid Facial Fillers

Dr. Sajan uses hyaluronic acid-based fillers for the majority of his patients' treatments. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body. Particularly concentrated amounts are present in the soft tissues and fluids that surround your eyes as well as in some cartilage and joint fluids. Hyaluronic acid currently is one of the most popular injectable fillers. It is highly effective in treating moderate-to-severely-deep facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds more commonly known as "smile" or "laugh lines."

Your Filler Treatment

Facial filter treatments are done at our clinic. Dr. Sajan will mark points on your face as injection site guidelines for the fillers. The treatment areas will be carefully cleansed using an antibacterial agent.

Dr. Sajan uses cannulas for soft tissue augmentation. It is one of the newest and highly effective ways of injecting fillers. A cannula (in Latin, "little reed") is a very slender tube used to deliver fluid – in this case, filler – to the body. Dr. Sajan inserts a cannula through a micro-incision at a targeted treatment point on your face and injects the filler material. This process is repeated at each target point. The cannula delivery technique is more precise and the risk of encountering a blood vessel is reduced compared to traditional needle injection delivery. Bruising, swelling, and discomfort also are reduced.

The amount of time your filler treatment takes will depend on the number of areas that are being treated. In general, the process lasts between 15 and 60 minutes. Following treatment, ice packs may be offered to help ease discomfort and reduce any resultant swelling. The filler procedure may leave the treated areas of your face feeling a bit tender for several days but it is rarely uncomfortable enough for patients to require prescription-level pain management medication. You should be able to resume most activities immediately after treatment.

Minimizing Risk

Facial filler treatments are considered among the safest of cosmetic procedures but keep in mind that filler treatment is a medical procedure that should be done in a state-licensed medical setting by an experienced provider using sterile instruments.

Filler treatments are not viable for all people. To determine if facial filler treatment is right for you, contact Dr. Sajan's office for a consultation and explore the possible benefits of facial filler treatments with one of the leading experts in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
